6/08/09 - FILLY RAGS TO RICHES ADDS SWEETNESS TO THIS YEARS BELMONT STAKES

While we cannot have a Triple Crown this year, we may still see a very exciting and interesting race. Will Curlin simply blow out this years Belmont with a Smashing open lengths victory ? Can a filly like Rags to Riches make a 1 1/2 mile race distance against the boys ? Will Hard Spun rate and put this field to bed turning for home with an insurmountable lead ?

You know, I personally attended every Belont Stakes from 1978 to 2004. I know the Belmont racing surface inside out. Speed can go a distance if it is rated correctly. How do you think Eddie Arcaro and Angel Cordero, jr won so many races ?

A speed horse like Hard Spun could go to the lead, slow the race down and then lull the field to sleep while turning for home under power and pulling away. Then again, Curlin might sit pretty in 3rd or 4th and close with ease for a big win. But....did we pick either one of these two for our Top play in the Belmont Stakes ?

We loved Winning Colors when she won he Kentucky Derby and gave her out on top. We then picked Risen Star in the Belmont Stakes and got 5/2 for a standout. We think the fans will be betting the filly again this year, but its so very rare to get a filly who can beat the boys. Also, if that was not enough, the distance of 1 1/2 miles makes it very unlikely Riches will win the Belmont Stakes.

We have a HUGE Stakes Undercard and a BIG Day of Racing. Order now to recieve our picks in Email.

On a totally side note, no one under the age of 70 calls Belmont Park, Big Sandy. The constant refernce to this nickname by TVG commentators is nice to know, but not at all a current term used for the track. No one at Belmont or in the racing world calls it by that ancient nickname. We call it "BEAUTIFUL BELMONT PARK", the greatest and finest American racetrack ever built. Belmont Park is to Horse Racing what Yankee Stadium is to Baseball. We truly hope that this track survives once the NYRA franchise is completed and new management comes in. It is known that should the racetrack ever cease operations, the heirs to the August Belmont family would regain control over the land and its future.

5/24/07 - NO TRIPLE CROWN THIS YEAR AGAIN !

We gave you all Curlin in our Selections. *PRESS HERE FOR PREAKNESS PICKS*

Every time we think, this is the year for a Triple Crown, something happens to stop the famous Triple from occuring. If not for this or that, we could have had one. It just goes to show you how special the Triple Crown is, and how hard it is to get it.

We expected a speed duel on the front end, however, we were impressed with Hard Spun sitting off it and not in it. Longshots Xchanger and Flying First Class went out on pointless suicide speed missions that had no hope or chance of winning this race.

The field began to take shape going into the clubhouse turn and siwinging into the stretch. Hard Spun had taken over from the very cheap speed of this race, and Mario Pino did everything he could to go for the wire. Curlin was closing on the outside and Street Sense was flying from the back.

Street Sense looked to have all the momentum and power to just blow out this field and win for fun. Curlin, had something to say about that, and after being passed on the inside, came back gamely.

Flying through the stretch and towards the wire, it was apparent that Street Sense's powerful move took a lot out of him and he was gasping on fumes jumps before the wire. Curlin, under Robby Albarado, kept a steady and powerful forward momentum going and simply passed Sense for the win.

There is a lot of debate about wheither or not Street Sense will run in the Belmont Stakes. We know Curlin and Hard Spun want to run. It should be interesting to see the trio make another race together. If Hard Spun should win, then whois the best 3 year old ?

Lots of excitment for us coming up in the Belmont Stakes.
