05/21/08 - BIG BROWN ON COURSE FOR RACING IMMORTALITY IN BELMONT STAKES

*DERBY AND PREAKNESS FOES VANQUISHED WITH LITTLE EFFORT*

A big sweeping move into the far turn at Churchill Downs and Pimlico prove to be the keys to victory.

Forget about the fact that he was putting a ever growing margin of distance with every stride through the stretch. Big Brown has shown he is simply unstoppable through the first two jewels of racings greatest prize.

*Seattle Slew was undefeated through the Triple Crown*

The Legendary Seattle Slew, 1977 Triple Crown winner, was undefeated going into and through the Triple Crown races. Will Big Brown emmulate him ? Only time will tell.

While Big Brown is undefeated, he has not raced a many times as Slew did or as many times as any Triple Crown winner ever has. In the past, horses had to prove themselves as 2 year olds, and 3 year olds. In today's racing game, all you have to do is run one solid year to be considered a champion.

*The Test of Champions*

the Belmont Stakes is called the Test of Champions due to its lengthy distance and the crowning of a champion possability.

1 1/2 miles around the Belmont oval is a one lap affair. Remember, Belmont Park is the largest racing track in North America with an enourmous dirt track that featured sweeping banked turns. Horses have plenty of opportunities to close ffrom way back at any time due to the slow curving through the turnsand the massive amount of room through the stretch.

We have had many opportunities to bestow a Triple Crown since 1978, and Affirmed's race to triumph and glory. Each time since then, we have been looking for someone special to capture the crown, from Silver Charm, to Smarty Jones. They too looked equally impressive and capable of winning. However, in the end, we were shown that a Triple Crown is a very special and indeed special opportunity that only comes along in a rare while.

Will Big Brown capture immortality and Racing's heart ? Only the actual running of the race will tell. One thing is certain though, Racing could certainly use a big boost right now, as it wains and fades away amidst a vast ocean of Casino Gaming that appears ready to swallow up the entire country in slot machine and poker card playing. Lets hope that when the Belmont Stakes is run, there will be enough fans watching it to be able to remember it and tell future generations.
