01/24/01 :
Tragedy strikes the NY racing community, former jockey and trainer Marjorie Cordero(Clayton) was killed on Long Island 1/23 by a hit and run driver.

We were very shocked and saddened to hear about the loss of Marjorie Cordero(Clayton). For those readers who do not know, she was the wife of Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero, jr.

According to news reports on the local NY stations, as reported to the stick via telephone, Marjorie was crossing Glen Cove road at night and was struck by a dark colored Ford truck. The driver for whatever reasons did not stop and is being sought by police.

Marjorie Cordero was an outstanding female jockey who rode many winners in her short racing career. She married Angel Cordero about 10 years ago(We have to check on exactly when), and they immediately started a family. They made an attractive couple and were seen often in the stands cheering on horses that either Angel or Marjorie trained in their life after riding.

We hope to have more information and news for you after we research it out.

Our sincerest condolences are with the family of Marjorie Cordero. The entire Stick staff and myself feel a deep sense of loss as a true horse-person(a lady) was lost in such a sudden and shocking way.

The racing community has lost another bright star. Marjorie Cordero(Clayton) was 41 years old.

01/19/01 :
His name is Javiar !
Middle Moving on far turn to victory
brrrr..cold

Well in our own usual personalized style, we are giving you our thoughts, on Winter Racing in NY.

Javiar, you say ? Well who is that ? Javiar Castellano is that Florida jockey from Calder. You know, the guy who was in a neck and neck battle with Rosemary Homeister for leading rider at Calder ? Well he's here in NY ! Much to our surprise and delight. In just 3 days of riding he has already won multiple races, and look for a lot more from this guy. Javiar surprises us in that we thought he would take a stab at going head to head against the BIG boys at Gulfstream. However, Javiar may have made the prudent decision, and looks to be in much higher demand at Aqueduct(especially after winning right off the bat !), then he would be at Gulf with all those seasoned veterans. Best Luck to Javiar Castellano, a World Quality jockey.

Ok, you hear every year about the bias this way or that way. They are either wiring the field in every race or closing on a wet track day...blah, blah, blah ! Have you seen the middle move bias over the last week ? It is in unreal. If you take the lead going into the far turn, your home free ! If you wait for the top of the stretch, you never get up. If your on the lead, you almost always win, unless your being hammered into the far turn. This bias has little hope for handicappers though as "middle moves" are subjective to conditions, and you cannot be certain when a horse will make his move. If you see PP's with a slight closer from 3rd or 4th, use them in exotics.

It is cold in NY, and dark, and damp. However, that does not mean you can't catch some competitive races and decent payoff's.

The Big A used to close down for 3 months prior to the introduction of the Inner Dirt track, and there was no OTB system. Thus many fans had to simply wait for the Spring OR go to Florida, as many of them do for Horse Racing. This was the origins of the NY colony flight to Florida. However, over the years, the BIG A Winter meet has become a showcase for apprentice jockey's looking to make a name for themselves, and for veteran journeyman who simply have roots and family here, and do not want to commit to a 3 month jaunt in Florida.

01/12/01 :
Norberto Arroyo losses on two 2/5 shots(his fault or fans ?) in 2 days !
Speed bias rules !
Winter Racing very quick and fast.

In case you missed the last two days of racing, jockey Norberto Arroyo lost at odds on of 2/5 on 2 different days ! Now...your saying who should we blame ? Norberto ? or the Fans who overbet the horses ? Well, how about BOTH ! In both races, the 6th yesterday 1/11, and the 7th on Wedenesday 1/10, Norberto did finish 2nd, after having multiple winners on other mounts for the day. I believe both horses were trained by Dick Dutrow. We have to say we are BIG fans of both Dutrow and Arroyo, and if you leave them out of your plays, you will be throwing away a lot of tickets !

To all fans ! As someone else once said, never a horse alive, that could pay the mortgage at 2/5 ! Better to sit those races out, OR to BOX your exotics for a fighting chance of getting a decent payoff. What do you have to gain at 2/5 ? If you bet $50 to Win, you will only get back a total of $70, and most daily players are not betting straight wagers anyway.

The Speed bias continues to rule the Inner Track, as we knew it would ! Be very wary of speed horses who were tiring at Belmont or other tracks, their speed will carry them home here ! ALSO ! Be Careful for Reversal days after it rains ! Then Closers and middle movers may have the advantage and you will get HUGE prices as everyone bets the wrong bias horses.

Did you notice in the Winter that the races seem to go a lot faster ? Well, thats because its cold out here in NY ! Brrr...The jockeys, and trainers and horses all want to get out and run and back in the warm stable area. While this Winter has been cold, it is not as cold as it got in the 80's. We Remember those interviews with Angel(pronounced An-hel) Cordero, jr. showing all the jockeys in the jock's room putting on thermal underwear and hoods. Play early, especially if your on the West Coast, as they move right along at the Big A in the Winter to finish the days racing.

12/27 :
Shaun Bridgmohan hurt in spill !
Ramsammy rolls !
True Winter Season in NY this year !
Update on Fraud Alert

Shaun 'Briggy' Bridgmohan was hurt in a frightening spill the other day at Aqueduct. It looked on the simulcast view like Shaun got squeezed in on the rail, and then fell off when his horse bobbled badly. Shaun fell and hit the ground hard. It looked as though he was knocked out from the force of his face hitting the ground. OUCH ! The rest of the field behind the fallen Bridgmohan very narrowly missed him, thank g-d. Shaun will be out for some time while he recovers. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he is feeling better soon.

We warned you about Emile Ramsammy. He is a Veteran working in an apprentice colony. Expect Aaron Gryder(our favorite Inner Track specialist) to have some tough competition on his hands this year for top jock at Aqueduct.

The weather in NY has been exceptionally cold and windy. Expect some BIG snows this year and a true Winter season. Please be sure to check the weather conditions when handicapping for the BIG A. It should be a snowy, windy meet on the Inner track.

The Fraud alert remains in effect and Stick fans and friends have been keeping a watchful eye for us at different venue's around the Country. NO ONE IS CURRENTLY AUTHORIZED TO SELL OUR SHEETS. YOU MAY ONLY BUY THEM FROM THIS SITE AND THROUGH MC_EXCELSIOR@THESTICKHORSERACING.COM AND SALES@THESTICKHORSERACING.COM

12/21 :
FRAUD ALERT !
Emile Ramsammy digs in at the Big A
Richard Migliore to go South
Trainer Iwinski and Serey hot right now.

Hi Everyone, sorry for the delay in updates, we have moved into nice new digs and have much more space and services to offer you.

*FRAUD ALERT*

There have been reports from one of our customers that someone has been illegally selling Stick Selections Sheets in the parking lot area of Hollywood Park.
We have not seen these sheets, but they must be very realistic and similar to/if not exactly like our reports, as the customer who wrote in bought them believing them to be from us.
NO ONE IS CURRENTLY AUTHORIZED TO SELL STICK SELECTIONS SHEETS BY US ANYWHERE. WE ONLY SELL DIRECTLY OFF THE INTERNET. WE DO NOT ENDORSE OR SUPPORT ANY SALES OF OUR SELECTIONS SHEETS FROM ANY 3rd PARTY.
We are in negotiations with Officials at the major tracks to have them sell our Selections at their Official News Stands and Program Sales, and we will post that information when an agreement is made.

Canadian regular jockey Emile Ramsammy, who was most recently seen winning races on the inner track oval is making a Winter run here at the Big A. This guy is not a bug rider, and he was very competitive over at the So.Cal circuit. Watch this young rider, as he is certain to have a lot of winners and be near the top of the standings.

Richard Migliore has announced his decision to go South with our Larger, more, well known jockey colony to Gulfstream when they open shortly. Expect to Richard winning races and showing how good he has become. The "Mig" a face to watch !

NJ trainer Juan Serey, and MD trainer Allen Iwinski were spotted at the airport waving goodbye(NO THEY WERE NOT !) to all the Belmont and NY main trainers as they left for Florida to escape the cold. Serey and Iwinski winning in bunches ! Watch out for these guys this meet, they will probably have the lion's share of winners from their strong barns.

12/04 :
Chris Antley found murdered. see California News Page
Inner Track set to open Wed. Dec. 6th.
Name Jockeys head South for Winter.

Aqueduct goes into full Winter mode with the opening of the Inner Dirt track on Wed. 12/06. Expect Speed to reign supreme, as the sharper turns on the 7F inner track and the harder surface in freezing weather help carry speed horses home. Remember, if horses were showing speed at Belmont and fading in the stretch, they will hold much better here at Aqueduct on the inner.

Other factors to note with the move to the inner track,
1.Top Jockey's and Trainers will be moving South to warmer climes and Gulfstream/Fair Grounds/Oaklawn in the coming weeks, if they have not already done so.
2. Aqueduct Winter meeting ALWAYS has been a showcase for talented apprectice riders. Expect that this year as unfamiliar names begin to show up on mounts in the entries for AQU. Don't be fooled by the "new-ness" of these bug riders. Famous rides to come out this meeting include, local Superstar Richard Migliore, Shaun Bridgmohan recently, Norberto Arroyo last year. Past graduates have been the who's who of racing....Steve Cauthen, Jose Santos, Jorge Velasquez, Eddie Arcaro, Willie Shoemaker...and on and on. OF course, don't forget the Supreme Master, Angel Cordero jr., who loved to emulate Eddie Arcaro's mastery of PACE and win every race around. Now, in later years the top stars moved South to Florida in the Winter...but but but, when they first made their bones, they rode here in the Winter ! Aqueduct and Jamaica racetrack before it had a legacy and a tradition that carries into modern day.
3. Due to the changes in past years allowing some medications (most prominently Lasix), expect to see a FULL compliment of Maryland, NJ, and MA shippers coming in. Finger Lakes horses will be much more competitive here as well. Remember, the Big outfits you know and love from Belmont have already left and are moving into the Fair Grounds, and Calder, and Gulfstream stalls. Oaklawn open in Feburary, and they will get a good share of NY racing people there too.

The Inner is playable, but BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE of the Speed Horses. Front Runners win a HUGE amount of race on the Inner Dirt Track at Aqueduct.

11/18 :
Breeders Cup Memories
Bug Jockeys RULES AQU !
Final Turf Stake Red Smith Today

The Breeders Cup is just a memory now, but we had some interesting moments, and yet another very tough BC Classic. Expect a larger detailed report on all the races shortly.

It must be the Winter Racing season in NY. Just look at the jockey's listed and its harder and harder to find Jerry Bailey or Jorge Chavez or John Velasquez, unless it is a black type race. They are all just waiting to go to Florida when Gulfstream gets into high gear.

The Bug jockeys(aka "the kids") are coming in and it looks like we have another banner crop of top apprentice's going. Jorge Duarte looks like a man on a mission. He is all of 16 years old ! Go get'em Jorge !

For those of you who remember, many famous riders get their start at Aqueduct in the Winter. Richard Migliore is a prime example of a World Class rider who started off as a young man riding here. "The Mig" went on to many bigger and brighter things later in his career. For those who are more recent in racing, you might remember that Shaun Bridgmohan started off here as the top bug rider a few years ago and has been riding winners ever since !

Nov.18, today, is the final TURF stake in NY for a long time ! Expect the Winter and cold weather to prevent Turf racing for about 6 months. Judging by the 40 degree temps today, it is going to be a cold winter in NY. Look for turf in the South and West until the warmer temps return to NY.

11/01 :
Aqueduct Opens and Winter Racing gears up
Breeders Cup this Weekend !
MC finishes in top 1/3 of Aqueduct Handicapping Challenge past weekend

Aqueduct Racetrack has opened for its annual 7 month meeting which will go through the Fall, Winter and into Spring. Expect Speed to play a HUGE role in who wins races, especially when they move to the inner track ! Belmont and Saratoga are only memories now, but we will have them again next year.

Look for the NJ, and MA, and MD crowd to invade Aqueduct on a regular basis. Remember, NY allowed Lasix use about 2 years ago so shippers will be coming in fast and furiously. Also expect to see Meadowlands Jockeys pulling double shifts as they will fill the void left by our Top jocks heading south to Florida.

The Breeders Cup is only days away ! This Saturday we will see the very finest horses from around the US and the World compete for the $Millions$ offered in each race. We will have FULL Coverage on the Breeders Cup Log pages and will offer a flat rate of $30 for the Entire Day at FULL EXPERT w/FULL COMMENTS Level !!! We could go on and on about the races, but see the special pages for info. Fu Fu vs. Lemon Drop Kid...WOW !

Aqueduct held a Handicapping tournament, and I HAD to Enter ! As you know, MC(me) is "The Stick". What can I say about the contest....well, it was a BLAST ! Thanks to Adam(not Andy)Duffy for getting me in last minute. I was officially registration # 198 out of the 200 spaces available.

The atmosphere was great, and people were very friendly, pointing out who had a shot in the race and which horses they liked. NYRA's Jeff Scarfo did a great job of directing the event. Jeff gave out regular information on race time closings and jockey switches and scratches.

The format was the same as last year with nine $20 W, P OR S bets on 6 races at Aqueduct and 4 or less(with the left over at Aqu) at Keeneland(Churchill Saturday), and one $40 W, P or S wager each day.

After the first day, I had $110, well below the strategy oriented leaders who were at about $800 down through $300. My Best Bet on the day which I used my $40 wager for came in. I did not realize that is was well worth while to play 1/2 shots to place and end up the day with $250+....which many near the lead did. This does not take away from the winner, who obviously was picking very well.

On the second day, I started to roll, and had 3 of my first 4 wagers come in ! I moved up to $233, and realized that I had to take some chances to catch the leaders. Well, after taking some BLIND, wild chances with 1st'er at Churchill and at Aqueduct, it was clear my strategy from the first day cost me(I WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR and apply what I have learned !). I gave Spook Express with Mike Smith my last wager of $40, and if he head won, we would have moved into a prize money position in the top 20....but thus, it was not to be. Despite any plus or minus on the day, I had a GREAT time, and enjoyed speaking to the different people and racing personalities that were there. You know, Dave Brower from Racing from the Meadowlands is a lot taller in person then he looks on the tv. Congratulations to EVERYONE in the contest, I look forward to facing you guys again in future contests.

10/20 :
LEMON DROP KID AND BEHRENS OUT OF MONEY !
BREEDERS CUP IN 2 WEEKS
INSTANT PAGES FRAUD

The Breeders Cup Classic became very interesting after 2 of the favorties for that race, Lemon Drop Kid and Behrens BOTH finished out of the money in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park. There were complaints of bumping at the start between the two from various parties as well. Whatever happened, it was quite a shock to see Albert the Great repeat his Dwyer performance and go ALL THE WAY baby ! Nick Zito was beaming as he had the Champagne Winner, AP Valentine, earlier in the day. Fusaichi Pegasus will have his hands full with this speedball if he shakes loose at Churchill.

The Breeders Cup is only 2 weeks away and we will have complete coverage including FREE News reports every day leading up into the Cup on special pages located on the Breeders Cup Log-In(Special Events Log In). Price will be $30 per Breeders Cup race with FULL Comments and Figures on Every Horse Running.

The Instant Pages orders for now will be sent via email that day or the night before. We have had customers frauding us by placing links back to the instant pages and we are upset about it. Complaints have been lodged with servers, and those people must pay for every access of those pages or they will be forever barred from using this site. We will ban them from accessing any pages within our site if they do not stop immediately in giving away our hard work. We stay up until 3am every night.

10/02 :
Steve Crist TOTALLY RIGHT !
Fu Fu Wins BIG in Jerome,(Fast Time).
Scotty Schulhofer says "Bring it On !" for the Kid.
HUGE Stakes Weekends coming up at Belmont !

If you did not have a chance to read the Steve Crist article on the Internet Gaming Prohibition Act that was in the Sunday DRF, please go to DRF's web site and check out the article. Mr.Crist was absolutely right !

The Industry of Horse Racing may think that in the short term, prohibiting internet gaming is the way to go...but they are wrong ! LEGAL, HONEST Gaming on the internet is the way of the future...and in fact it is what the Tracks should do for themselves !

To align themselves with a Bill that will in essence prohibit gaming at the Internet level is to deny themselves revenue dollars that could be obtained on line in the future. The few protection clauses are not enough to save horse racing.

The great fear that the Horse Racing industry does not see is that by getting congress in an Anti-Gaming frenzy, it will only be a matter of time before those same Anti-Gaming Representatives come after Horse Racing and try to prevent its operation as well. Shall we return to the days of NO simulcasting ? NO WAY !

Fusaichi Pegasus was a HUGE winner in the Jerome, against a relativly strong field. After Blazing through blistering fractions that Sprinters would be envious of, Albert the Great tired through the stretch. Fusaichi Pegasus, last seen coming in 2nd in the Preakness in May motored up on the outside and simply blew them away in the lane. Regular jockey Kent Desormeaux was in the saddle, and he felt confident and strong according to his post race interview.

Flint Schulhofer was aksed about a meeting between Lemon Drop Kid and Fu Fu, and he said "Bring it on !"

The Jockey Club Gold Cup should be one of the BEST Races of the year, and it makes this writer remember the 1978 Cup between Triple Crown Winners Affirmed and Seattle Slew. Slew the 4 yr old won ! Remember after in 1979 ? Affirmed the 4 yr old vs. Spectacular Bid the Derby Preakness Winner ? Affirmed the 4 yr old won ! Does Lemon Drop Kid have the advantage ? At Belmont Park...he certainly might !

Follow us for the Weekend Stakes Action, lots of G1 races and this week the $750,000 Turf Cup ! is the feature. Next Week, Jockey Club Gold Cup !

09/20 : LEMON DROP KID ROCKS BEHRENS BY A NOSE IN WOODWARD
Fu Fu to run Saturday in the Jerome ?
Belmont Final Hurrah of Summer into Fall before Breeders Cup.

If you had a chance to see the running of the Woodward Stakes from Saturday...WOW ! The "KID" and Behrens fought it out in a real NY Streetfight... Lemon Drop Kid and Behrens both had to be surprised to see Ecton Park go to the early lead. However, once they came around into the stretch it was a 2 horse tour de force between an tough, old veteran in Behrens and the Belmont Phenomena, Lemon Drop Kid.

We love Lemon Drop Kid and actually did pick him as a Upset Special in last years Belmont Stakes...However, we have to ask the question...is Lemon Drop Kid a BELMONT PARK FREAK ? Can he only run big races here ? We Certainly Hope he can run big everywhere, since he is a Local NY based Horse.

It should be very very interesting to see if Behrens can round back into the form that made him famous last year. He would be quite a handful if he can get his heart back like he did in the Woodward.

Fusaichi Pegasus...remember him ? He last raced in the Preakness on a muddy track and was defeated by Red Bullet. Well, the rumor mill is ripe and everyone, including major media, and our cronies on track are telling us that Fu Fu will run Saturday in the Jerome. Neil, "I refuse to answer", Drysdale is being reported in the DRF as saying he would NOT confirm anything about Fu Fu running Saturday.

The Jockey Club Gold Cup is going to be so AWESOME this year ! We are anxiously awaiting a match up between Lemon Drop Kid and Fusaichi Pegasus at Belmont. That would be a Major Media Event. Plus it would give the sport a nice boost coming into the Breeders Cup.

Belmont Park is the final hurrah of Summer as we move into the Fall Racing, and the annual geographic switch of horses and stables South in the coming months. Live it up now, Belmont open for 4-5 more weeks..its worth the visit to the track, it is a special place also. Don't look for red carpets, go into the stands or roam the paddock and listen for echos of greatness past. Belmont has Tradition and Heritage...this writer takes pride in having placed his hands on the wrought iron gates that were once the entrance to Jerome Park.

Tell us where they are located(Jerome Park Gate) at Belmont for a FREE Starter Level Page...no kidding ! Email in your reponse. Best Luck..MC

09/07 : BELMONT REOPENS FRIDAY...YES !
JD sets new Win Record at Spa(50 wins)
Perfect Sting wins again n Spa finale
NYRA sets New Records in people and $$$

The Stick is now OPEN 7 Days a WEEK for All of the fans who cannot get enough of us ! Instant View Pay Pages are posted late each evening before for our customers who wish to pay with a Credit Card for Instant Selections.

Well, the annual Horse Racing Fantasy known as Saratoga is concluded for this year. For those who love it so, it was everything they promised. Top Level Horses, the best trainers, and enourmous crowds flocked to the famous Summer hideaway at Saratoga Springs. According to DRF, NYRA set records in attendance and handle...way to go ! You could see from the daily crowd totals that this year was going to be special. Hopefully we are seeing a renewed interest in Horse Racing by people. When you put on a Top Level show, and get the best Horses and Jockey's and Trainers, I believe people's imagination is captured.

We keep applauding Jerry Bailey, but did you realize he won 50(FIFTY !) races at this 6 week meeting ? Jerry is quick to say that if Manny Icaza, or Angel Cordero had 6 weeks, instead of the old 3 week schedule they had up until the 80's, and early 90's, that those stars would have done just as well. Maybe JD, maybe not !

Jerry Bailey is really riding in his Prime ! Please video tape his races from the Fox-daily replay show. He does not realize it, and neither do most people....but we may be seeing the Finest Rider of ALL TIME right now. Even famous riders like Bill Shoemaker and Eddie Arcaro had their good and bad meetings, and they fought like hell to win. Arcaro and Shoemaker were hard working, tough riders who fought for every race. Jerry fights and works hard too, but he wins so often and so (seemingly) effortlessly, that it defies the laws of physics(what goes up must come down ? Not JD !)

Now, it is easy to make the case that JD rides for the best outfits and has the top trainers lining up to use him, so his mounts are sometimes superior to those of the other riders. Fine and dandy, what about the other Top Trainers that were present at The Spa ? What about the other Top Jockeys from around the Country(Pat Day, Shane Sellers) and World(Ebina-# 2 in Japan), and our other Top local talent(Robbie Davis, Mike Smith, Richard "Mig" Migliore, Edgar Prado(who was so hot at Belmont and is a Win Leader for years)), and many others that are local or who shipped in for the big purses ?

You MUST drop to your hands and knees, and say the following when you see JD on a TV Monitor or in person, "The Stick told me...we're not worthy !" G-d Bless JD, what a treat for those of us who recognize this "Babe Ruth" of Horse Racing. Keep going JD !

Perfect Sting won the closing day stake, the $500K, G1 Diana rolling through the stretch, with who else riding her ? JD...Nuff said, Belmont opens Friday ! See you there.

08/30 : Bailey just SUPER-Human
More then Ready rolls !
Unshaded and Shane in the Travers !
Chop Chop puts them to sleep on Pleasure !
Just one more week..aw !

Where do we start with all the News we have to catch up on ?

JD is simply NOT a mere mortal..he is SUPER-Human. He keeps winning multiple races on the Saratoga card against the very best jockeys in the country ! People at the simulcasts are applauding...When was the last time you can remember people doing that for a jockey ? GO JERRY ! JD, a Legend, watch him ride and tell your grand kids you saw it !

More then Ready returns to 7F and EXPLODES ! Go Todd, go ! While people can question his distance ability..one thing is sure...More then Ready is DEADLY at 7 Furlongs. Watch for this one in the Breeders Cup Sprint, he will be handful. Pat Day substituted in for the injured John Velasquez. Get Better soon Johnny V !

Unshaded wins the Big One, The $1 Mil Travers...but does it put the 3 yr old picture in even more fog ?

Hats off to Unshaded's connections for a masterful job of getting him ready against a tough, BIG field. Shane rated him perfectly, and then split horses for a dramatic win in the mud. Does the 3yr old championship revert back to Fusaichi Pegasus because of the recent losses of Red Bullet, Dixie Union in the Dwyer and Travers ?

Chop Chop really put them to sleep in the Personal Ensign on Friday. Beautiful Pleasure just coasted home after opening up a big lead over Distaff points leader, Heritage of Gold. The Breeders Cup should be a real war between these two !

This is the FINAL week of the Saratoga meet for this year. Don't you hate when they say the final week like they will never go back or something ?

The Spa meeting, as always was a HUGE Success, and as you can see from the simulcast signal...there will be a lot of people who will miss seeing those top horses race.

Belmont Park opens After Labor Day, and you can expect most of the horses/jockeys/trainers to come downstate to race when they switch back.

08/18 : Sword Dancer is rocked by FIELD Horses running 1-2 ! John's Call still has it !
City Zip swims home to another convincing win-Go Linda !

Well, if you were left scratching your head after the $500K, G1 Sword Dancer was run on a soft course...you were not alone ! We had more then 50 emails from web site fans asking us if we thought the race was filled with jockey mistakes, or a bad turf course.

Ok...lets break this down for you guys. First off, the Jockey's in NY and from the midwest riding at Saratoga are the Very Best in the World ! We even had Kent Desormeaux and Victor Espinoza coming in from California to make this a Breeders Cup-esque type of race.

Secondly, The turf was indeed soft, and played to the speed. You cannot expect the stewards to move a Grade 1 Turf stake to the dirt simply because it was wet. The fact that it was soft did effect the outcome, but the track was safe, and it acceptable to be run on the turf.

Lets examine 2 things....the field is usually made up from the weaker horses entered in the race, and speed horses should not be able to hold on in 1 1/2 mile distances.
Making a field in a Grade 1 race is difficult, most of the horses have very strong records. John's Call was a 9 yr old gelding...making him the oldest G1 winner on the turf at the Spa. Aly's Alley has shown wonderful speed in his previous starts but could not hold on against lesser company.
Aly's Alley was perfectly rated, and no one pushed him...sooooo he could go slowly enough to hold on for second with a cushion.
John's Call was ridden by Jean Luc Samyn....and if you did not believe, you will now..."SAMYN ON THE GREEN !!!"
In addition, John's Call was a turf stake winner in the past...the only question you could pose was, is he still able to run back to his old form..The answer turned out to be yes, but he was no lock, as his long odds proved.

The point being....if you see an open race, and the surface is uneven, and the field is filled with uneven horses...it is possible to win big on a price. Difficult to find, but not immpossible, as some of our subscribers can attest to ! Your Welcome for the Winners !!!

City Zip was a prohibitive favorite in the Saratoga Special, and he showed his stuff with a convincing 2 1/4 length win over a mud soaked field that included Scorpion(From D.Wayne), and a Surprise 2nd place finish by 64-1 Standard Speed.

Linda Rice is just a MASTER ! with 2 yr olds. You might say the tip off was she was using Jose Santos....but but but, Linda has also been winning with NY Regular Mike Luzzi.

Can City Zip stretch out to longer distances then 6 1/2 Furlongs ? We sure hope so ! We shall see.....

08/08 :

WHITNEY ALL LEMON DROP KID !
GRAHME HALL TAKES JIM DANDY
HASKELL GOES TO Dixie Union-3 Yr Old Picture up in air ?
TRIPPI TRIPPED UP IN AMSTERDAM
MARLON ST.JULIEN TAKING IT TO THE BIG GUYS
SPA JUST A FANTASY LAND FOR RACING

The Whitney was this past Sunday, and if you thought Lemon Drop Kid needed a Fast Track....think again ! The Kid was well placed up in 3rd most of the way behind Longshot David, and surprise-to-be-so-close Golden Missle. Edgar Prado rode his usual masterful ride and made a $750K race look like a walk in the park for him. It always helps to have the best horse on that day too !

Our personal favorite, Behrens, came in a respectable 3rd after stumbling badly going into the first turn. Running Stag was never a factor in the off going, and David threw in the towel going into the far turn. Surprise came from a determined Cat Thief, when 'Chop Chop' Chavez made a dive for the rail and the lead ! Almost...but Cat Thief just loves to hang in the stretch..4 wins lifetime for him because of it.

The Jim Dandy was won by a horse who loves to upset, Grahme Hall. His uneven record had us scratching our heads. He loses to This Tyrant had Class in a minor stake at Monmouth, and comes back to blow out a very respectable field that included Albert the Great.

The Haskell Stakes from Monmouth was looking to stamp More then Ready or Captain Steve back into the 3yr old picture...but it was not to be. California invader, Dixie Union...one of a small number of horses to defeat Fusaichi Pegasus, charged through the stretch for a thrilling victory. Alex Solis flew in for the ride, and finally we see him coming in and winning a Major G1 race. Good Job Alex and trainer Dick Mandella ! Dixie Union had suffered an injury that required knee surgery to fix. It looks like his knees are working right now !

Did you see Trippi in the Amsterdam ? IF we ever thought there was a lock favorite in a 6F race, that was it. Pat Day and a lightly raced 3 yr old got the win at 11-1, and our hero Trippi had to settle for 3rd. They don't call Saratoga the graveyard of favorites for nothing !

Marlon St. Julien rocks home hard in every race he runs in. We like to spotlight hard working, hungry talent in the jockey ranks all the time...well watch out for Marlon ! He dives in for the rail, he comes hunting on the outside...this kid has got the stuff !

Saratoga is a true horse lovers paradise...the setting and pagentry set it apart from other meetings. Even Belmont, which is my personal favorite, does not get the attention to detail that The Spa receives. This meeting is like every day at the Breeders Cup. It is a who's who of racing, and we have graded stakes almost every day. Hats off to NYRA, they do many things very well...The Saratoga meeting is one of them.

EMAIL PROBLEMS RESOLVED

SARATOGA TO OPEN
SPECIAL STICK DEAL ON WEEKENDS--ENHANCED STARTER

As some of you may have noticed, Email Problems have been corrected. This was due to a server error that has been fixed. We respond to ALL Email. IF you ever write us and do not hear back, please CLICK on our Alternate/Emergency Email contact located at the bottom of most pages.

Well today is the BIG day. The Spa is opening for Summer 2000, and as usual expect NYRA to have each day as a showcase of racing. Expect Graded stakes races almost every day of the meeting. Only 1-3 days of non stakes races the entire meeting. G1's abound !

The Highlight of the meeting ? How about EVERY WEEKEND !

We are looking forward to the Whitney and Alabama....but The Travers will steal the show. We are hopeful, but reserved about a Final showdown between Red Bullet and Fusaichi Pegasus, but many have told us we may never see the winged wonder horse race again. Amounts of $50-$70 Million dollars for Fu Fu's sale have us questioning if we will ever see him race again. Thank You Neil, Kent and Mr.Segiguchi for the great races in the Wood Memorial and Kentucky Derby, we enjoyed them very much ! Best Luck in the future.

We have a Special Deal on ALL Stick Selections Sheet at Enhanced Starter. Remember, Enhanced is 5 horses per race, every race...ranked and conditions with Full Stick Figure and Variant #'s included.

If you purchase EITHER Saratoga or Del Mar at *Enhanced Starter* Level , Normally $10 for Each. We will give you either Saratoga or Del Mar for FREE on ALL Saturday's and Sunday's.

07/18 : FINAL WEEK AT BELMONT BEFORE SARATOGA !
JD ROCKS BACK AFTER DWYER DAY
EBINA TO STAY IN NY FOR SUMMER
STICK LOGO GOLF SHIRTS !

Well this is it for the Summer Meet at Beautiful Belmont Park. It's off to Dreamland and the Mystical Saratoga "SPA" Meeting. We have a few surprises this year...It looks as if Bob Baffert will be sending a contingent to The Spa as well as Del Mar...very interesting !

Well now that the news is finally in, we TOLD YOU SO ! JD was not at fault...it now appears that Red Bullet had an infection that compromised his race in the Dwyer ! Jerry has been riding multiple winners almost every day this past week...Don't ever discount JD, he is one of the BEST !

Massai Ebina, the Japanese Flash(as coined by The Stick !), has plans to stay in through the Summer and ride at Saratoga. IF reports are correct, he will bring his wife and family here, and will try to get a better handle on English. Can you imagine that ? This guy has been riding Winners, and longshot 2nd's and 3rd's and he was not even able to fully understand what the trainers wanted ? This guy is good ! Yutaka Take might be a movie star in Japan...but watch out Mr.Take....Massai Ebina is learning how to win among the one of the BEST Jockey colonies in the World.

The Stick fully supports and respects all hard working jockeys out there...but we will always be partial to the NY Colony..Chop Chop, JD, Mike E, The Mig, Shaun, Robbie, The Amazing Edgar, Johhny V, Jean-Luc ! Norberto(who will be great)...we love these guys ! Also, past legends to race in NY include Eddie Arcaro, Angel Cordero Jr, Jorge Velasquez, Eddie Maple, Jean Cruget, Ron Turcotte, Steve Cauthen...it just does not get any better then this !

Except for maybe Corey, Chris, Laffit and Kent...oh forgot about the E-Man too(VICTOR !) but they all live 3 hours earlier in time then we do.

Well did we mention Pat and Shane...and their arch nemesis Calvin ? Well, you can't play them all ! OR can you ?

We finally did it ! Polo-Style Golf Shirts with our Logo Embroidered on the front ! These shirts are so hot, that we are wearing them for the comfort and style they have. We are told that Name Brand designers use these shirts and put their labels on them...well we will sell them to you for less and with our Stick LOGO Bar design embroidered on the front ! Price :TBA. Email us for info.

07/10 : The Blaze and Stick on Track at Belmont sporting Custom Logo Tee's(Photo's soon)
Jerry Bailey comes back after gall stones and loses on 3 heavy favorites to fan boo's--we were shocked(at the fans)
Can you say Zito ? Nick rocks NY.

Hi everyone ! Both The Stick(MC) and The Blaze were on track Saturday and Sunday at beautiful Belmont Park. We perhaps could have skipped Saturday and gone to the computer show at Nassau Coliseum(but I insisted on the track !). Blaze and I walked all through the Grandstan area as we looked at the festival tent and the duck pond, and of course the walking ring. You know the Horses flash before your eyes from the Grandstand viewing ! In the Clubhouse you get a perspective of the horses coming through the stretch and who should get up. In the Grandstand, you see them HIT the wire..really very intense.

We both had on custom Stick Logo Tee's, so if you saw us walking around, that was us ! We will have photos of our outing to the track soon.

Jerry Bailey was off from July 4th until Sunday with Gal stones, and he required treatment for them. It was obvious with the big horse, Red Bullet running, that Jerry would want to come back and ride him. We watched earlier as Jerry lost on 1/9 Matchlaca Pass in the 3rd race, only to have that followed by a narrow defeat in the 4th race turf even on Regal Dynasty.

In the 7th race, JD was on Renoir, a high priced 3 yr old buy for Satish Sanan and D.Wayne Lukas. As the 2nd choice at 5/2, Renoir was out of the top 3. JD was pumping and driving on all three of his early mounts, and in a departure view from the fans boo's, we feel that those horses simply did not have enough ummpph to win those races. When the horses get on the jockey's backs, and they have to run around the track, then we will criticize them !

Finally, JD was on his "Power" mount of the day, the awesome Red Bullet, conquer of the Preakness Stakes over Fusaichi Pegasus. At odds of 4/5, we played "The Bullet" and watched as the parade of racing celebrities filled the owner's boxes...Did we mention, on Sunday we sat in our box on the 2nd floor clubhouse and watched as Nick Zito, Bob and Beverly Lewis, and even Maryland Jockey Club's Joe Defrancis all walked by. We love being so stealth, and the Owner's boxes are truly wonderful on a nice 78 degree, Sunny day.

To our surprise, Albert the Great was allowed to go off on his own and STEAL the Dwyer. Hats off to Richard Migliore for a Master Ride ! Nick Zito horses are always ready, so to congratulate him would be redundant, as everyone else does all the time..however, Congratulations Nick !

More then Ready was able to out gain Red Bullet, while Belmont winner Commendable was up close, then wide, then dropped back, then came on again all for naught and 4th place.

To our combined shock, both myself and The Blaze could not believe our ears as people cat called JD, and then yelled out comments like "go back to the hospital JD". I was very surprised and looked up at the fan on the 3rd floor who yelled it out. While JD may have rushed his return to the races, it is highly speculative to say he was riding hurt or that his recent health problems contributed in any way to his losses. JD has a 40% win clip and is the leading rider at Belmont Park with literally 1/2 as many mounts. JD did not deserve the cat calls. We stand behind you JD ! If fans look closely at the Dwyer they will see Richard Migliore rode the perfect ride on Albert the Great, and won a deserved victory for himself and Nick Zito. Bring on the Travers !

07/01 : JAPAN'S #2 Jockey in NY ! Massai Ebina full of energy !

Well, a Huge Konnichi-Wa to Massai Ebina. While Japan's #1 jockey, Yutaka Take, is struggling at Hollywood Park...We have a strong feeling Mr.Ebina will be winning at Belmont soon.

Ebina, is a Huge Success in Japan, and his mounts and earnings have him pegged as the #2 rider in that that country. If you watched him ride yesterday at Belmont...WOW ! This guy was pumping and driving...looked on the simulcast as if he was giving a banshee yell too ! Ebina is pumped and we think he will be a huge surprise to many here. Mike Smith's old agent, Steve Adika is handling his book. Best Luck to Mr. Ebina...we always enjoy seeing a jockey getting pumped up and strong for his races. Go get them !

06/30 : Suburban another Breeders Cup preview.
D.Wayne Rocks ! Another Classic in the Dwyer July 9th ?
We have Official Press from Del Mar, hey NYRA, John I & L, send us Official releases and we will be happy to post them. Send us your thoughts, we would be happy to post them also for our readers.

The Suburban is going to be one of the BEST races this year, but the Dwyer is also shaping up as one of the best 3 yr old races yet. Behrens vs. Lemon Drop Kid...Almutawakel thrown in, and Lager make for an interesting field. We will have Expert Level pages for the Suburban, Dwyer(the following week), and Hollywood Gold Cup. We are goin to limit comment on those races as our subscribers always dictate to us what they want. They feel it is not fair to pay for the page if we hint at who we like in the free news. Therefore, we will only mention that NYRA RULES ! NY Racing simply the greatest in the World this time of year.

The Dwyer is shaping up as one of the most awesome races for the 3 yr olds yet. D.Wayne Lukas....our HATS are off to you Sir ! Instead of ducking the issue with his Belmont winner and looking for easy spots, D.Wayne is going to take on Red Bullet, and More then Ready with Commendable. Go for it D.Wayne ! If you thought Commendable was not the real deal, you were not alone...but it shown a lot of heart and determination...exactly what we believe in, to take on 2 of the best in the division. Red Bullet, breathing fire out of his nostrils when last seen winning the Preakness. More then Ready, a long time Stick favorite(we loved him as a 2 yr old.). More then Ready should be quite formidable at the Dwyer 1 1/8 mile distance...no matter what anyone says !

Hey NYRA, we are strong NY Racing supporters...we would be happy to post your comments or News Briefs right here for our many Stick fans. We have official releases from Del Mar being sent for posting...feel free to send us yours and we will post them. Thanks Guys !

06/27 : 7 STRAIGHT DAYS OF RACING STARTING WED. AT BELMONT
EDGAR PRADO ROCKS THE LONE STAR JOCKEY CHALLENGE
NY RACING JUST A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE IN SUMMER.

The Belmont Park staff and tote people will have a long week in front of them. The racing from Wed. will go straight through the week through Tuesday July 4th and we culminate it all with the $750,000 Suburban Handicap ! We will be offering an Expert Level Page for the Suburban with the Quality and Information you have come to expect from us at The Stick Horse Racing Dot Com. USe the Spec. Events.Log-In Page available from the main page or the Quick Select Menu page.

Edgar Prado finally took the initiative at Lone Star Park in the final race of the 4 race jockey challenge to win and displace the Amazing effort by local jockey Donnie Meche. One of The Stick's secret weapons in our selections at Belmont, jockey Mike Smith, came in 3rd. Have to hand it to the local guy, he took it to the best in the World and was leading in points coming into the last race. Hats off to him for that impressive effort. A HUGE Wave of The Stick to Edgar for a fantastic finish in the last race. Edgar dove to the rail and passed two horses for the BIG win.

The jockey's assembled behind our NY All Star must have thought they were on the Football field after winning a big game, because they dumped a full "team size" barrel of gatorade on Edgar. He was a good sport about it and high fived everyone afterwards. Way To Go Edgar ! Congratulations from The Stick and Staff !

On a personal note, you just cannot find a better way to spend a Weekend, Summer day in NY then by going to Belmont Park. The majesty of this grand old dame of a track and park has echo's of greatness rebounding off its huge structure and ivy covered walls. If you sit and listen in a quiet spot, you can almost hear the great calls that have immortalized Belmont Park.

The Sweeping turns, the massive amount of width to the stretch...you have to fall in love with it all.

The paddock and its quaint tree's and green wooden benches, the stading stands for all the people to watch and for some to give cat calls to the jockey's. The pleasant wooden roof of the shed row where the horses are saddled. No other track has this beautiful flowing alacrity. The walk from the paddock in the "backyard-parade grounds", to the track actually goes inside the building and through to the track itself. You can watch at the glass, or at the cross over to the grandstand, and actually look right at the horses faces. Some of them will be looking back, we can tell you ! Make sure your not hanging over with a slice of pizza or a NY sourdough pretzel !

There are those who will always say Saratoga is the Shangri-La of NY racing. I would never seek to burst that bubble, as Saratoga is an impressive and historic Summer Time place to be seen and to see the World's best racing. However, for those of us who look closely and deeply at what August Belmont created at the turn of this century, we can only roll our heads back in marvel and astonishment as he was successful beyond his dreams and expectations in creating the "Grand-est" of ALL American Race Tracks.

06/23 : Quick Update for ALL REGIONS. Jerry WON BIG on Dubai Millennium
Jockey Challenge 6/23 at Lone Star

Jerry and Dubai Millennium blew out the Prince of Wales Stakes with Another Monster Win ! Go JD and Dubai Millennium. It is only a matter of time before we see this one run in the States. Can he be beat ? It will take a Wonder Horse to do it !

There is a very interesting Jockey Challenge at Lone Star tonight, 6/23. It features All the East and West Coat top riders along with Mid Western Stars for a 4 Race tour de force during the running of the normal Lone Star card. You can bet the jockeys in W-P-S, and Exacta/Trifecta Wagering. Should be a lot of fun for everyone involved and they are expecting huge crowds at Lone Star Park. Some of our Savy customers surprised us with the Large number of Lone Star Park orders we received last night and this morning. We predict Jorge Chavez will win the overall Challenge and Kent Desormeaux will be in the top three...other then that, it is a wide open affair. Perhaps Laffit Pincay to round out your triples ! Best Luck Stick Fans, You All Rule !

06/21 : Jerry Bailey in England for Royal Ascot Week.
Here comes Dubai Millennium !
Hempstead HDCP G1 this Saturday at Belmont.
Edgar Red Hot right now !

Two of our Top Belmont Jockey's are in England this week, both Jerry Bailey and John Velasquez. Remember guys, its the opposite way around the track !!!

Jerry is going to be riding Godolphin SuperStar, Dubai Millennium on Wedenesday 6/21 at Royal Ascot. Dubai Millennium...last seen blowing out a World Class Field in Dubai for the World Cup this year. We cannot impress upon you enough how strong Godolphin horses are right now. Trainer Saeed bin Surror proving to be a master trainer and he has so many G1 victories its getting hard to tell what he has not won already.

Millennium is one of those very well bred exotics that you can compare to Fusaichi Pegasus, and Aptitude. In his last race, Dubai Millenium defeated Behrens and Ecton Park along with assorted G1 and G2 winners from Europe and the World.

While it might be possible(not really) to say Dubai Millennium could be beaten in the USA at Santa Anita or Belmont Park, it is not even possible to speculate about it in England. There would have to be a terrible mis-cue or incident to prevent Millennium from winning with ease in the Group 1 Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot.

We cannot wait to see this one run in America...do we have to wait for the Breeders Cup ? Perhaps, but one thing is for sure, this horse is a Superstar and he will make his mark.

Hempstead Handicap looks to be incredible ! We are Offering an Expert Level Page for the Hempstead this Saturday, and as usual, the Undercard will be linked to that page FREE for all who order. See our Spec.Event.Log In page for details. A $250,000 G1 for 3 yr old and Up Fillies and Mares at a 1 1/16. We have Beautiful Pleasure ready to take on the top girls and prepare for her eventual meeting with Heritage of Gold. When these two eventually meet it will be like two rams locking horns !

Edgar rolling right along ! Jockey Edgar Prado is hot ! He nails the Brooklyn with Lemon Drop Kid, and is only 5 wins away from Jerry Bailey in the standings. We have been watching his turf rides and they are masterful works of art. Go Edgar ! Will JD come home to find Edgar on top ? Maybe !

06/14 : (Extra Coverage)BELMONT STAKES DAY WONDERFUL, STAKES ITSELF A SHOCKER !

We were live on track at The Belmont Stakes Stick Fans...We saw trainer Linda Rice at her table upstairs in the Terrace restaurant, and Carl Nafzegar downstairs outside the 2nd Floor restaurant in the Clubhouse. Manny graciously allowed us an extra table to accomodate us. Thanks Manny !

Jockey Mike Smith said hello to us on Sunday, we had to go back the next day , as he was coming through the tunnel to the track on his mount for the 6th race. Hi Mike !

Kenny Noe was discussing business and Hank Goldberg came out of the elevator as we walked towards the 2nd floor restaurant...what a show of faces and name brand people on Belmont Day. For a race that did not feature any standout horses, the crowd was HUGE !

Pulling into the back parking lot, we immediately noticed that there was no valet parking(something that was sorely missed !). In years past, the valets wore tuxedo's and had a special double pull in line to ease traffic. This year, everyone had to park off on the backstretch in Green or Gold parking fields and take the shuttle busses back. You appreciate how big Belmont actually is, when you walk back to the Green field from the Clubhouse/Grandstand.

There were numerous stands and concessions stands that had everything from Champagne to Shrimp Cocktail.

It was hot out there Stick Fans ! The humidity made it feel like a steam bath, and the air conditioning in the restaurant was a welcome relief !

The races were tough, but as you can see from our FREE review of the undercard, we picked the John Velasquez Early Double of Left Bank and Rabi for a nice early score !

The stakes races were all very top level and it was aamazing to see Kent and Corey here, but not in The Belmont Stakes itself. We are guessing they had made their plans ahead of time, and that they also wanted to be seen on the coverage.

Brutally Frank was Brutally defeated by an incredible Intidab and Robbie Davis in the True North HDCP. Blaze and I were shocked, and even though he lost, we both remarked to our large crowd of fans and friends that Brutally Frank has had an incredible run so far, and that he is a serious threat for Sprinter of the Year if he can stay sound. Go Mitch !

Manndar hammered home under Corey Nakatani to win the Manhattan, and it was a great race to watch. Spindthrift a horse to watch, as he has a monster kick, and will dominate G2-G3 level horses.

In the Just a Game, Perfect Sting just got up for the win, and JD is still invincible on turf when he has a strong horse ! Front Runner Babae looked to try a steal at the top of the stretch and Stick Long Shot Joe fans were screaming...but the class rise was just too tough. Look for this one back against easier.

Trippi hammered home and pulled away from the Riva Ridge field...we got numerous letters and Email congratulating us on the Selections for that race...Your Welcome Stick Fans ! Your Welcome !

The Belmont Stakes itself was a very difficult race to handicap for everyone. The Top Public, and Private Handicappers all pointed out the better horses and gave clear, precise reasoning on why you should play them. However, no one, could give out Commendable without a crystal ball.

Hats off to D.Wayne Lukas and Pat Day for a Top Level effort and having the confidence to run the horse. They had the best horse for Bob and Beverly Lewis on Saturday.

Aptitude and Unshaded came flying home, but the heat took its toll on Unshaded as he suffered apparent overheating(heat stroke) after the race.

The day on the whole was a HUGE success for NYRA, and it is proof positive that people LOVE Horse Racing in this Country and will come out for a top level day of races, regardless of all those other forms of gambling out there for them to not enjoy. Horse Racing has no equal, especially in the great state of NY on Belmont Day..so says the Stick.

06/01 : BELMONT STAKES NOW A REAL HORSE RACE ! PICK'EM 15 POSSIBLE !
***BEVO POSSIBLE***

It is sad that Fusaichi Pegasus "bruised" his foot, and it is always a smart move to save an 'injured' horse for another day.

We at the Stick are HUGE fans of Fusaichi Pegasus, and Red Bullet...but we are also fans of really competitive races, and we will not let the defections of the Derby and Preakness winner spoil our day out in the sun at Belmont Park.

For the record, Belmont Park is a track with an almost 100 year history, it was built for the pleasure of horse racing lovers, and no other race track in the US or oversea's(with possible exception to Royal Ascot) offers the superior size and presence that Belmont Park offers.

Once around....The Test of Champions ! A 1 1/2 Mile race with all 3 yr olds weighted equally. This is one of the few horse races run where people actually cheer as the horses come out of the gate, and as they turn for home. There is nothing like it when that huge building(It is a massive physical plant) shakes and every seat is taken. You feel as though the only thing that matters in the world is the racing schedule for the day...an your right, it does !

In the Preakness, we had to suffer through a small field and odds on loss of Fu Fu....now we will have 15 horses with perhaps Aptitude at 3-1 as the favorite ? This race will be a Horse Players delight ! Expect huge potential payoff's on the other Top 3 yr olds who might have been scared off if Fusaichi Pegasus, and Red Bullet had run.

For a $1 Million purse, and G1 status, the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown is just as important as the 1st(we can hear the debate now !) or 2nd. Not to mention, it will make a Superstar out of the Winner.

IF you thought the 3 yr old picture was in focus...think again ! We have 15 now looking to run, and more on the fence.

Impeachment, 4th in the Derby and 3rd in the Preakness will be here. Aptitude, runner up to Fusaichi Pegasus, will be the likely favorite. Don't forget Wheelaway, and that "SUPER-RUNT" Globalize. The Blaze is hoping for a big effort from Globalize who is a horse all about heart size, not leg size.

There are hints being reported in DRF and other places that BEVO, the Belmont Futurity winner of last year may be added to the field. Bevo, defeated More then Ready and Greenwood Lake in that G1 field as a 2 yr old. GO BEVO ! On the DRF cover showing Bevo being led into the winner's circle, The Stick is seen to the left kissing a lovely lady...HEY DRF, WE WANT THAT PHOTO BLOWN UP FOR US ! PLEASE EMAIL US AND LET US KNOW HOW MUCH !

We will have FULL Coverage starting Wed. on our Special Belmont Stakes Log In, available from the Main Page or from the Special Events Log In box located at the bottom of many of our pages. *-ORDER NOW IF YOU WANT OUR SPECIAL, We had people locked out who ordered at the last minute as we had already left for the day to attend the big races. News on the Special Pay Pages will be updated 2x-3x daily, for paying subscribers. FREE Review of our Kentucky Derby and Preakness pages available on the Belmont Log-In page. *PRESS HERE*

05/20 : Preakness Notebook Final from Pay Pages

*STICK PREAKNESS NEWS FROM AFTER RACE *5/20* (SHOCKING UPSET)

The Blaze and I are very shocked and disappointed as Fusaichi Pegasus was soundly defeated by second choice Red Bullet in the 125th Preakness Stakes.

There will be many excuses made and explanations as to why Red Bullet won and why Fusaichi Pegasus lost.

We will attempt, with a very heavy heart, to explain some of them to you.

First off, Fusaichi Pegasus was bumped and squeezed very soundly at the start of this race. He was able to recover, but then went very wide on both turns.

Secondly, it is clear that Fusiachi Pegasus did not like the going, when Kent asked him to run, he was running on heart alone. This was NOT the same horse we saw winning the Wood Memorial and Kentucky Derby.

Hats off to Joe Orseno for a fantastic training job. Red Bullet was ready and prepared for the very difficult job of winning in the Preakness Stakes.

Jerry Bailey was simply awesome. We just cannot say it any other way. Jerry made the difference in this race. He got the jump on Pegasus, and ran away and hid in the stretch. No one was going to defeat Red Bullet today.

Neither myself or the blaze or our staff are disappointed for Red Bullet or his connections...we are simply sad that we will again not see a Triple Crown, we had honestly hoped with Foo Foo, we were going to see the triple.

The Blaze has asked me to add her comments for this race. She wishes to say that while we both agree that Alex Solis is one of the best jockey's in the country, Jerry Bailey brings out the best in this horse.

The Blaze also feels very strongly about Fusaichi Pegasus being placed in a barn off in the distance away from all the action. We spoke on this for some length, and both agree that it was a mistake to break tradition and Not put Pegasus in the Barn reserved for the Kentucky Derby winner. Perhaps being away from the action of the track made Pegasus feel as if he taking a vacation or not having to be on his toes.

Finally, we both agreed that if you own a Kentucky Derby winner, you should be in attendance for the Preakness. Unless some emergency befalls your business or family, it is not proper to be away from your horse.

NOTE FROM "The BLAZE"

What was Neil Drysdale thinking. Where was he??? I watched ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC all day......I never saw Neil Drysdale once. The track was slippery, why oh why did he not change Fusaichi Pegasus's shoes??? Why on earth did he decide to stable the horse out in left field somewhere, away from the life of the track...no other horses to communicate with, no hustle & bustle of the track life around him.......absolutely nothing to stimulate the horse, to fire him up for race day............he calmed the horse down alright, he did not want to run! I think some very poor decisions were made in this race......Fusaichi Pegasus was TOO secluded, no reporters buzzing around him.....which he is accustomed to, no other horses around him......and where was Neil Drysdale and the owner?? This horse has way too much personality to shut him off from the crowds like he did........the horse feeds off of the energy of the fans, reporters, photographers, and other horses around him!!!!

My hat goes off to Joe Orseno for deciding to put Jerry Bailey back on Red Bullet. Red Bullet looked awesome, and the ride by Bailey was impeccable. I was sure if any one could beat Fusaichi Pegasus, it would be Red Bullet........the only reason I am sorry that I was right, is once again we miss the chance of a Triple Crown Winner.........I thought we had a REAL chance with Fusaichi Pegasus. Red Bullet is a great horse, and deserves the recognition for running such a fabulous race! I sure hope to see the two of them face off at The Belmont Stakes...........The Stick & The Blaze will be there in person to see it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for being such loyal supporters of our web site!!!!!!
