The Donn Handicap, our first Grade One for the Handicap division, highlighted another wonderful saturday card at the Hallendale oval. Everyone was looking forward to seeing Roses in May and Saint Liam go head to head. They put on quite a show. Its a shame we had to have a loser, because both of these champions really pushed each other hard through early fractions.

Roses in may secured the rail position, and showed great tenacity in refusing to yield to Saint Liam through the first 5 furlongs of this race. Finally, as the pair turned into the stretch, Saint Liam started to gain an advantage. Once clear, Saint Liam turned on his afterburners and accelerated clear in the final eighth. Edgar Prado had his hands full on the far turn, for as we came into the stretch, Saint Liam was about 5 or 6 wide. Classic torque oversteer for the car buffs out there. He was running so hard and with such determination, that Saint Liam simply ran through the turn.

Roses in May, with Johnny V up, fought a game race, and was simply pushed early and unable to hold off the winner. Eddington and Eibar Coa finished 3rd. Final time for the 1 1/8 Mile was 1:48 2/5. If Saint Liam can hold this form through the year, he will be a real handful for the others in the division.

Breaking down the rest of the day and the stakes action at Gulfstream, we had 5 stakes races and a lot of fun for everyone playing on saturday.

Race #2-Around the Cape, we needed some help from the stewards, and got a $6.20 winner from a DQ.

The Old Hat Stakes
----------------

Our Top Selections, favorite Maddalena, was a huge winner with a 7+ length victory under our favorite jockey, Johnny V !

Alphonsina, with Cornelio Velasquez, finished 2nd and Aspen Tree with Javiar Castellano finished 3rd in a time of 1:16 2/5 for the unusual 6 1/2 furlong distance.

Race #4-Noble Causeway, gives our selections the 3rd winner on the card, for a low priced return of $4.60. No one complained in the fan email. As Fast Fran always says, a winner is a winner. Besides, the better prices are coming later in the card. What a great day we had at Gulfstream !

The Hutcheson Stakes
------------------

Win #4 on the day on top. Another favorite, and Johnny V again. Proud Accolade, the wonder horse from Todd Pletcher returned $3.60 to win, but I have to tell you Stick Fans, I was guessing he would pay $2.40-$2.60, and we can never guarantee a horse, but this was a lock winner. Coming from off the pace, Proud Accolade waited as Devil at Sea set the pace. Coming off the far turn, and turning for home, Johnny V dropped the hammer, and came 4 wide. That was all she wrote, as this 3 year old may be our next Derby favorite. An incredible run for Pletcher and JV, congratulations guys, this is a nice one.

Longshot Park Avenue Ball with Javiar Castellano was 2nd. Third place went to Vicarage and former NY jockey Chris Decarlo. Final time was 1:29 4/5 for another unusual distance of 7 1/2 Furlongs.

The Davona Dale
--------------------

We were looking for a mild upset with 2nd choice and 2nd place finisher In the Gold and Edgar Prado. The top two were reversed in our picks. Winner Sis City under Johnny V, gave a masterful front running ride which looked effortless. Longshot Jill Robin was third under Roberto Alvarado, jr. Final time was 1:50 1/5 for the 1 1/8 mile distance of the Davona Dale.

Bonus Question for fun : (answer below) before Davona Dale became the famous graded stakes winner that she did, she was defeated twice by a now unknown rival. Can you name that rival ?

Race #7, and Winner #5 on the card. Bandini was yet another Johnny V favorite, but we loved him at even money. For every $1 people played on him, at their simulcast or the track, they received $2 back.

The Deputy Minister
---------------------

Guess what Stick Fans ? We did not pick this one on top ! However, our Top Pick, Forest Danger was scratched, and our second pick, Medalist won. So we will not count this win towards our total, but he was the default pick for our selections.

Medalist and Jose Santos took the lead early on and stayed in front the whole way for a final time of 1:15 3/5 for 6 1/2 furlongs. Longshot Mister fotis and 'Chop Chop' Chavez was 2nd at 12-1. Kela, the favorite with Jerry Bailey finished 3rd. Kela was our third position selection.

The Donn Handicap - WIN #6
----------------

Saint Liam makes Win #6 on the card for us. We already told you about the results and Saint Liam at the beginning of this headline.

The Holy Bull - TRIPLE/EXACTA IN ORDER AND WIN #7
----------------

This was the best race for us today Stick Fans. We not only picked the winner on top, but we also gave out the triple in order.

Winner Closing Argument paid a generous $17.80 with Cornelio Velasquez aboard. After sitting behind 2nd place speedball, Kansas City Boy, our 2nd selections, Closing Argument took charge and the pair held off favorite, High Fly. High Fly and Eddie Castro finished third after running up behind horses through the stretch to give our fans a very nice $321.40 Triple in order. The Exacta also paid a pirates bounty of $131.20.

Your Welcome Stick Fans, we hope that we can always give you as many winners on any racing card as possible.

*Of note, the Holy Bull Stakes is the very same race we gave out 2 years ago for a $1,300(for $1 wager) superfecta payoff. Check our Testimonials to see what people wrote back then. Make special note of Mike Fansler's comments, as he has always told us we are red hot at Gulfstream. In all fairness, we try to give out as many winners at every track in the country we select for our fans and long time customers. Many times our figures are right there, and we come away with a lot of winners. Every once in a while we have a bad day also. However, we now post all previous days for people to view. You can check them for free and they are identical to the sheets that are for sale each day. May we give you as many good days as we possibly can. G-d bless.

*Answer to Bonus Question : Candy Eclair defeated Davona Dale twice, before having the tables turned on her and disappearing into history. I believe Mrs. Henry Paxston owned Candy Eclair, but I am doing this from memory and could be mistaken.

Best Racing and Regards, MC
