Friesan Fire has shown he is the king of the Louisana 3 year olds with a fantastic sweep of the big three races at The Fair Grounds. The Lecomte, Risen Star and now a smashing Louisana Derby are all under his belt. This 3 year old shows no signs of slowing down, and his 6 1/2 length victory in the Grade 1 LA Derby marks him as one of the top contenders for the Derby.

The 1 1/16 Mile race was run in a decent time of 1:43 2/5. California invader, Clem ran second after setting the pace. Invader was third.

Fire is trained by Larry Jones and ridden by Gabriel Saez. This one might be the horse to beat....

*TAMPA BAY DERBY*

The $300,000 Tampa Bay Derby looked to be a wide open affair on paper, and it ran just that way.

Longshot Join in the dance fought up on the front end before taking a clear lead into the stretch. Eventual winner, Musket Man, ran a huge race and flew through the stretch to just catch the longshot at decent odds of 5-1 himself. Justdontcallmejeri finished third.

Musket Man is trained by Derek Ryan, and ridden by Daniel Centano. The time for the Tampa Bay Derby was 1:43 and 3/5

Santa Anita has some bigger 3 year old prep races coming up, but this was the first one in that line of races.

As expected, Bob Baffert, conditioned the winner. Pioneer of the nile won as the heavy favorite under Garret Gomez. Fiesty suances was second, and Jeranimo was 3rd.

Final time was 1:43 and 2/5, the fastest of the three preps, but California tracks have always shown faster times for similar distances.
