With no Barbaro, or Lawyer Ron to worry about, Steppenwolfer can sit back early and come closing late with his usual powerful run. Robby Albarado will have to time his move correctly, but looks to have a lot of time on his hands early to get position and wait for the front runners to come back to him. While this one is not a lock play, we should see very decent odds of 5-1 or better and thats a great price on a very talented and successful colt who finally has the oppotunity to emerge from the shadows of the top 3 year olds and shine. Sunriver looks fantastic in this spot ! He loves Belmont Park, has won 2 of his last 4, and ran very well against superstar Barbero twice. While the media will push the other Pletcher trainee, Bluegrass Cat, we have to point this one as being much better then Bluegrass Cat. The Cat lost many times ad a favorite in grade 3 level races, to then rebound and run a huge 2nd place finish in the KY Derby. However, there is no reason to think that Bluegrass Cat wants to go 1 1/2 miles, and there is no set up rabbit for him this time. The speed horse, Keyed Entry is racing in the 7F Woody Stepehns, and cannot push the pace for Bluegrass Cat. Sunriver is the better half of the uncoupled Todd Pletcher entry, and we should see 4-1 or better on this one as well. A solid horse to keep in the exotics. High Finance is showing massive improvement in his recent form and looks ready to run a huge race. I believe he is peaking at the perfect time for the Belmont Stakes. We expect to see 12-1 or better odds, and Eibar Coa knows how to ride this horse. He may try to steak the race on the front end. With a lack of many early speed horses, and the distance, the field may let this one run off to an easy early lead. Horses like this get very brave on the lead, and he may forget to stop, or get so far in front of the others that he could shake loose on the far turn. While we caution against a horse jumping up in class so suddenly from an ALLW to a Grade 1, it should be noted that trainer Rich Violette is a great trainer, and has moved ALLW level horses into other stakes races with success and in the money finishes. Lets round off a big exotic(Triple and Superfecta) ticket with this one in the mix. Bob and John looked so good going into the KY Derby only to falter and finish 17th. However, if you consider that race a fluke, he has powerful victories in the Sham and Wood Memorial Stakes. He is another colt who has been running with the very best 3 yr olds around the country. This is his chance to shine and he does possess enough tactical speed to be near the lead turning for home. Garret Gomez has been spending the Summer in NY and knows Belmont Park very well. This one may run a big race and should also be between 6-1 and 10-1 odds. Bob Baffert was once considered a mainstay in the Tripl Crown races, and he has been very supportive of this one, may be a tiger in the wings waiting for a big effort here. Jazil isthe stone cold closer of the field. He always fires late and has a 1 1/2 Mile distance to make up any short comings he suffers from lack of speed. He is consistanly dismissed at odds of 20-1 or higher and always manages to come in the top 4. This one is an important Superfecta filler, and while we do like 4 horses above him, you can mix and match him into the mix as well. Betting Tips : Remember, a 5 horse Triple Box for $1 will cost $60 (5x4x3=60 x $1 = $60). A 4 Horse Box will cost $24(4x3x2)
